Born: July 1, 1813, Shelby Co. KY
Died: July 12, 1854 Oldham Co., KY

Buried: Speer Family Cemetery, Floydsburg, Kentucky

Married: Marquis D. Speer July 14, 1836 in Shelby Co., Kentucky

Susan was a woman of leisure and a mother.  Her father gave her two black boys, a good and serviceable woman, who was a good cook, and several other valuables to start out in life with.  Rhoda was this woman's name and she brought with her several children, and she was very useful.  John Speer gave them Mose, a black boy. 


Census/Records

1820 Kentucky, Shelby Co. - age 7 probably living with the Charles Hinkle family that seems to have multiple generations.

1830 Kentucky, Shelby Co. - age 17 probably living with Charles Hinkle family difficult to discern who is who.

1840 Kentucky, Oldham Co. - age 27 living with Marquis and their son John age 3.   The family also has four slaves one Rhoda who was the cook, two of her children and one Mose.

1850 Kentucky, Oldham Co. - listed as age 35 living with Marquis and their five children ages 4 months to 13 years.  There are nine slaves which include Rhoda.
