Birthdays . . . 

1782 Annie Janes daughter of Daniel & Annie (Saunders) Janes

1784 William Lewis in North Carolina the son of Richard & Lydia (Field) Lewis, husband of Susan Colclasure.  He died ca. 1844 in Clay Co. IL and is buried on the Davenport Farm in Clay Co. IL.

1795 Joel Clark son of Samuel & Mary (Darby) Clark.  He married Margaret ? ca. 1818 in Ohio.  Joel died in Lawrence Co., OH in 1850 and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lawrence Co., OH.

1838 Emily Smith in Ohio the son of James & Elizabeth (Tewalt) Smith.  She died in Iola, IL of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1925.  She is buried in Iola Cemetery.

1840 James Morehead son of Charles & Fanny (Warder) Morehead.  He died in 1880 at age 39.

1882 Wesley Bryan in Clay Co., IL the son of Wesley & Catherine (Smith) Bryan

1897 Donald Austin son of Wilco & Nora (Boswell) Austin in Wayne Co., IL.  He died in Morton, IL in 1980 and is buried in Mt. Zion / Farnworth Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.

Eastwell Ruin
1610 Rev. John Lathrop & Hannah House/Howes in her father’s church in Eastwell, Kent, England.  John baptized 1584 in Etton, Yorkshire, England was the son of Thomas & Mary (Salte) Lathrop.  He attended Cambridge University between 1605 and 1609 and became a minister.  Hannah the daughter of Rev. John & Alice (Lloyd) House/Howes was born in Groton, Suffolk, England in 1590.  Rev. John served the Egerton parish in Kent from 1610 until he resigned ca. 1622 with Hannah's father.  They had eight children and the first five were baptized by their grandfather House in Egerton and two who died in infancy are buried there.  In 1623 John moved his family into London where he began preaching at the First Independent Church.  April 22, 1632 the congregation was raided, Rev. John and 41 members of his congregation were arrested and put in Newgate Prison. Hannah died in London in 1633 while John was still in prison.  She was 43 and her children were between the ages of 7 to 19.  Rev. John was released from prison in April 1634.  He quickly took his six children and sailed for Boston aboard the Griffin arriving in September.  Upon arrival in Massachusetts Rev. John took his family to Scituate where many members of his congregation had settled.  Here he married the Widow Anna Hammond in 1635.  They had six children and moved to Barnstable, MA in 1639 where Anna died in 1688.  Rev. John died in Barnstable in 1653 and is buried in Lothrop Hill Cemetery and the rest, as they say is history . . .

Some interesting Eastwell relics that would have been familiar to the Rev. John.

1622 John Steele & Rachel Talcott in Fairstead / Braintree, Essex, England.  John the son of Richard & Elizabeth (?) Steele was baptized 1591 in Fairsled/Fairstead, Essex, England.  Rachel was born ca. 1600 in Braintree, Essex, England the daughter of John & Ann (Skinner) Talcott. They immigrated with their two sons to Cambridge, MA ca. 1631 and were one of the founding families of Hartford, CT in 1636.  They had eight children.  Rachel died 1653 in Farmington, CT.  John married 2) Mary Ruscoe in Farmington, CT in 1655.  John died 1665 in Farmington, CT.

1893 David Austin & Samantha Henry in her father’s home in Wayne Co., IL.  David was born ca. 1869 in IL the son of Thomas & Eleanor (Robertson) Austin.  Samantha the daughter of Joseph & Sarah (Engle) Henry was born 1877 in Wayne Co., IL.  She died in 1902 and David in 1948.  They are buried in Salem / Mateer Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.

1956 Richard Summers & Phyllis Lathrop.  Richard was born in Olney, IL.  Phyllis is the daughter of Dennis & Mabel (Petty) Lathrop.  They have three children.  Richard died in 1982.
