1812 – James Madison signs declaration of war and the War of 1812 begins.  Russell Lathrop & John Speer were veterans of the War of 1812.

Cheryl Lathrop daughter of Glen & Yvonne (Wolfe) Lathrop.  She is married to Stephen Hammil and they have two children.

Marriages:

1672 – Stephen Gifford & Hannah Gallop.  Hannah born 1644 was the daughter of Capt. John & Hannah (Lake) Gallop.  This was Stephen’s second wife.  They had four children.

1824 – Andrew Speer & Dicy Kirby.  Andrew the son of Andre & Elizabeth (Shelton) Speer was born 1802 and died in Leesville, IN 1881.  Dicy was born 1805 and died in Leesville, IN in 1874.  They had 12 children.

1913 – Earl Shelton & Edith Gurley in Fairfield, IL.  Earl born 1889 was the son of Ben & Agnes (Gaither) Shelton.  Edith the daughter of James & Lou (Speer) Gurley was born in Macoupin, IL.  The couple divorced ca. 1916.  Edith died 1920 and is buried in Thomason Cemetery, Wayne City, IL.  Earl and his brothers became the Shelton Gang bootleggers in the 1920s.  I’ve been told that he burned down J.R. Gurley’s barn for the insurance money.  He was also involved in a drive by bombing of the old hotel in Wayne City.  Earl died in Jacksonville, FL in 1986.

1921 – Louis Erkman & Ruth Hubele.  Louis the son of Martin & Mary (Schewberger) Erkman was born 1896 in White Co., IL.  Ruth was born 1899 and died in 1997.
