Happy Anniversary to You . . .

1856 William Dove & Martha Rainwater in Pulaski Co. KY.  William was the son of John & Jane(?) (Beasley) Dove in Casey Co. KY.  Martha was born in 1839 the daughter of William & Mary (Rayburn) Rainwater.  They had two children in Pulaski County prior to the Civil War.  William enlisted in Co. D of the 3rd Kentucky Infantry (Union) and mustered in as a private Jan. 1, 1862 in Columbia, KY for 3 years.  The battle of Mill Springs was fought near Somerset on Jan. 19, 1862.  William deserted at Camp Green, KY Mar. 13, 1862.  He went home to Pulaski County.  He moved with the Rainwaters to Brown Co. IN to get the family out of harms’ way.  Once the family was settled, William moved his family to Minnesota where he got work as a sawyer.  In 1864 he rejoined the Union army, enlisting in Co. L, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery.  The regiment was deployed to Chattanooga, TN as occupation troops. They mustered out in 1865. He and Martha had two more children before Martha’s death in Brown Co. IN in 1869.  Mom and I visited Brown Co. several years ago.  It is a very hilly, heavily forested area, not unlike Pulaski Co. and a good place to hide out during the war.  Thanks to Cindy Withrow for “the rest of the story.”  Her husband is a descendant of Martha Rainwater and had the Rainwater family stories handed down.  We’ll pick up this story in August.

1925 Gustav Mick & Florence Brewe.  Gustave was the son of Rudolph & Anna (Smith) Mick.
