died when J.R. was only 4 years old. He
and his brothers worked to support their mother and siblings. After Susanna Gurley’s death most of the
family moved to the Sangamon, Macoupin and Christian County area. He married Lou Emma Speer in 1892 in Glenarm,
Illinois. They moved back to Wayne
County ca. 1900. He was a farmer. J.R. & Lou had 5 children.
