  • Ordered  Jacob Speer, overseer, road from Fortrees Creek to Rowan County line and hands from Crersons old place and waters of Turners Creek work thereon.
  • Ordered Robert Speers Mill already built on Little Yadkin be deemed a publick Mill.
  • Ordered Brazalia Rose, now 15 years old, orphan of Brasalia Rose, deceased, be bound to Robert Speer until he arrives age 21 to learn art and mistry of a carpenter and at end apprenticeship be given set carpenters tools and suit woolen clothes and learn him to read, wright [write] and cypher. 
  • Order citation against Mary Nowlen produce her children and show cause why they not be bound out to some suitable trade and employment agreeable to law.

  • Ordered citation issue against Mary Nowlin to produce her three children: James, Sarah and Susan to show cause why they not be bound out.
  • On motion Colo. Martin: Joseph Cloud, Deputy Surveyor, hath run out certain entry made by John Deathridge with entry taker contrary to location, whereby, Richard Cox is much injured by survey. Ordered Surveyor forbear to return works of said survey until allegation farther inquired into.

Burke County was formed in 1777 from Rowan, which is bounded by Catawba, Cleveland, Rutherford, McDowell, Avery and Caldwell Counties.  More than one third of the book is taken up by the most important year, 1778, when pioneers swarmed into this virgin area to take up new land.
