A rebellion was instigated by John Coode, Ninian Beall and others, of which Nicholas Gassaway was one of the leaders for Anne Arundel County and who subsequently preferred charges against Lord Baltimore and his deputies with the results that the insurgents gained control of the Province and overthrew the Proprietary rule of the Calverts.  On October 22, 1690, under the signature of Henry Wriothesley by orders of Their Majesties [William and Mary] "Coll Nicholas Gassaway" and nineteen others were to assist Captain Coode "the Principall or Commander in Chiefe of all His Majesties forces within the Province."

The Descendants of Peter Porter: An Emigrant of 1621

Generation I.
Peter Porter d. ca. 1652/3 came to VA Jan. 1622 -> North Hampton, lower James River, 1623 on roll in Elizabeth City Co., VA, 1649 moved to Maryland -> Anne Arundel Co. md. Frances after 1648, she may be the daughter of Adam Dorsey, Frances murdered by Indians, set house on fire, Peter was scalped and burned, son Peter survived.
