Divorced: In her petition to the court she states that she married Charles Speer on January 30, 1865 and resided with him until October 1, 1902. She also stated that she had been living in Wayne County, Illinois since October 1, 1904. Anna claimed that "Charles A. Speer wholly disregarding his marriage vows and obligations toward your oratrix has ever since said marriage been guilty of extreme and repeated cruelty toward your oratrix, that is to say that the said Charles A. Speer, on divers days and times since said marriage, has beaten, struck, kicked and choked her, and has neglected to furnish her with proper and necessary food and clothing." She was granted the divorce in the January term 1906.
