In Memoriam - September 11th

1691 Hannah Hobart age 53 in Bristol, RI the daughter of Peter & Elizabeth (Ibrook) Hobart.  She was born in Massachusetts in 1638.

1823 Rhode (Brown) Goodnight in Lincoln Co., KY the wife of John Goodnight.  They had at least two children: Isaac and Sarah.

1856 Franklin Myers 4 month old son of George & Ann (Woodard) Myers in McLean Co., IL.  He is buried in Scogin Hill Cemetery in Bloomington, IL.

1940 Bert Damon husband of DeEtta Withrow and father of Frederick Damon.

1945 Mrs. Katherine Dempsey, 82, widow of the Rev. Warner W. Dempsey, died Monday, September 11, at the home of a son, Warner T. Dempsey, Oak Street Road.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 13 at the Walton & Stein Chapel, with the Rev. Pryor T. Smith, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.  Burial was in the Maple Ridge Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Raymond Austin, Erwin Ziegler, Silas Yates, Paul Bryant, Paul Kingery and Daren Pearce.  Flower bearers were Lillian Fischer, Loretta Fischer, Loretta Fischer, Wanda Dempsey and Jessie Fischer.

Mrs. Dempsey was born March 13, 1862, the daughter of Jacob and Lena Erkman.  She was married June 6, 1886, to the Rev. Warner W. Dempsey, and to them were born three children.  The Rev. Mr. Dempsey died September 3, 1897.

Mrs. Dempsey is survived by her only daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Fischer, of Manteno; her son Warner, of Carmi, five grand-children and four great-grandchildren.

We appreciate every kindness shown by neighbors and friends during the illness of our loved one, Mrs. Katherine Dempsey, and for the many expressions of sympathy at the time of her passing.

1961 Ella Mick age 57 the daughter of Rudolph & Anna (Smith) Mick.

1991 Lula (Robertson) Bond in Glenwood Springs, CO age 85. She was the daughter of Amos & Lula (Cravens) Robertson was born in Sims, IL in 1906.  She married Henry Bond and they had four children: Emily, Henry, Orval and Shirley.  Lula is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Rifle, CO.

1996 George Albert Crumbacher, 81, of 1001 Epworth, died at his home early Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 11, 1996.

A retired farmer, he had been in failing health.

Mr. Crumbacher was with the ASCS Office for 17 years and he was a well-known quilt maker.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Richard McCormick officiating.  Interment will be in Thomason Cemetery at Wayne City.  Visitation at the Johnson Chapel here will be after 6 p.m. Friday.

He was born in Hickory Hill Township Feb. 5, 1915, the son of John and Ruth Swan Crumbacher.

On Oct. 24, 1936, he was married to Agnes Withrow.  She died in 1992.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, one brother and three grandchildren.

He moved to Fairfield from north of Keenes in 1974.

Mr. Crumbacher was of the Baptist faith.

Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Hospice.

Surviving are two sons, Allan Crumbacher, of Rochelle; and George Crumbacher of Dennison, Tex.; six daughters, Mrs. Shirley McKibben and Mrs. Judy Scarbrough, both of Fairfield; Joy Flack, of Kingsland, Tex.; Louise Schick and Kay Barrett, both of Rochelle; and Fay Johnson of Marion; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister Nova Anderson, of Keenes.
