Excerpts from Cisne Man Dies in Wreck in Marion Co. Saturday
Killed Saturday in a wreck in adjoining Marion County was 52 year old Cisne resident James C. Barnfield.
He was one of three who died in a three-vehicle collision at the Rt. 37-Kell Road intersection about 3 p.m. Saturday.
Barnfield’s wife, Helen 47, suffered major injuries and was hospitalized in Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mt. Vernon, with critical injuries.
Good Sam officials listed Mrs. Barnfield in serious but stable condition Monday morning (today).
Marion County Coroner Daniel J. Fischer pronounced Barnfield and the Standerfers dead at the scene at 3:45 p.m.
State police said Barnfield was northbound on Rt. 37 in a ’92 Dodge pickup and his vehicle collided with a westbound ’93 Ford driven by Leah Standerfer who police say, failed to observe a stop sign and drove on to the Rt. 37 pavement striking Barnfield.
The Barnfield truck ended in the wrong lane of traffic, where it was struck by the southbound ’90 Dodge driven by Saeger.
