In Memoriam August 1st


1868 Mary Peters age 15 in Champaign Co., IL the daughter of Francis & Sarah (Runyon) Peters.  She was born in 1852 in Shelby Co., KY.  Mary is buried in Bethel-Harris Cemetery near Seymour, IL.

1868 Emma Peters,  sister of Mary above.  Born June 9, 1868 in Champaign Co., IL, she was 22 days old. Emma is buried in Bethel-Harris Cemetery and shares a stone with Mary.

1871 Susan (Dawson) Young in Kentucky age 59.  She was born in 1812 and married Michael Young in 1835 as his second wife.  They had no children together, but she raised Michael’s children as her own. Susan is buried in the Simpsonville, KY cemetery.

1926 James Colclasure in East St. Louis, IL age 69.  He was born in Louisville, IL in 1860 the son of Robert & Frances (Tracy) Colclasure.  He married Amanda Sowder in 1880.  They are buried in Oak Mound Cemetery in Clay Co., IL.


1927 Frances (Smith) Long in Shelbyville, KY the widow of Lewis Long in Shelbyville, KY.  Born Nov. 2, 1852 in Scott Co., KY she was the daughter of Jim & Susan (Runyon) Smith.  Frances is buried in Grove Hill Cemetery in Shelby Co., KY.

1947 Sophia (Schmidt) Smith age 68 the wife of John Smith, they married in 1904.  Sophia was born in 1878.  She and John and six children: Elsie, Elmer, Erwin, Ethel, Everet and Eldren.

1965 Erwin R. Smith, 55, of 2031 St. Michaels Court in Highland and formerly of Troy, died Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland where he had been a patient for 13 days.  He was born March 10, 1910 in Madison County, the son of the late Lesley and Emma Schmidt Smith.  He married Erna Buske in Troy, Dec. 3, 1938.
Surviving besides his wife are two sisters, Miss Elsie Smith of Marine and Miss Ethel Smith of Lincoln, and one brother, Eldren of Marine. 
He moved from Alhambra in 1948 and farmed south of Troy until his recent retirement.  He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ of Troy.
Friends may call at Edwards Funeral Home in Troy after 2 p.m. Saturday until 12 noon Sunday.  The body will be in state at Friedens United Church of Christ until 2 p.m. when services will be conducted by Rev. R.H. Mornhinweg.  Burial will be at Friedens Cemetery.

1965 Ben Hays, age 77 in Nebraska.  He was born in Illinois in 1888 the son of John & Magdalena (Dietz) Hays.  He is buried in Grand Island, NE.

1979 Verna (Hays) Cullison born 1909, sister of Ben Hays above.  She was 70 years old and probably died in Evansville, IN.  Verna was married to Aaron Cullison and they ran a hotel in Carmi during the 1940s.  They didn’t have any children.  Verna is buried in Enfield Cemetery in Enfield, IL.

2011 Tommy "Tom" Joseph Colclasure, 72, of Mattoon, and formerly of Clay City, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 in Mattoon.
He was a retired machinist for General Electric in Mattoon.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne.  Friends may call from 10 a.m. till service at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Willow Branch Cemetery, Rinard, with full military rites at the graveside.
Tom was born July 7, 1939 in Clay City, the son of Clyde and Lola Lee Colclasure.
He was a Vietnam Navy veteran and on Aug. 26, 1961 in Rinard, he married Betty Laughlin who survives.
Survivors include his wife of Mattoon; two daughters Pamela Colvis of Mattoon and Amy (Paul) Brodkord of Peoria; three brothers Jiggs (Peggy) Colclasure of Olympia, Wash., Jack Colclasure of Washington, Ind., and Rich (Rita) Colclasure of Clay City; one sister Betty Jane Cooper of Clay City; four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Belle McGrew, four brothers, Doc, Ivan, Buck, Charles and an infant sister.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted by the Hosselton Funeral Home.
