U.S. Land Patent

The United States of America, 
To all to whom these presents shall come, Greeting: 

Whereas, John Robertson, David Robertson, James Robertson, William Robertson, Henry Robertson, Lewis Foster Robertson, Brice Henry Robertson and Elizabeth Suiter; heirs at law of David Robertson, dec'd. of Sangamon County, Illinois have deposited in the General Land Office of the United States, a certificate of the Register of the Land Office at Edwardsville whereby it appears that full payment has been made by the said John Robertson, David Robertson, James Robertson, William Robertson, Henry Robertson, Lewis Foster Robertson, Brice Henry Robertson and Elizabeth Suiter, heirs of at law of David Robertson, dec'd. late of Sangamon County, Illinois, according to the provisions of the act of Congress of the 24th April 1820, entitled "An act making further provision for sale of public lands for the west half of the south west quarter of section twenty-six in township ten north of range seven west of the third principal meridian in the district of lands subject to the sale at Edwardsville, Illinois, containing eighty acres according to the official plat of the survey of the said lands returned to the General Land Office by the Surveyor General, which said tract has been purchased by the said John Robertson, David Robertson, James Robertson, William Robertson, Henry Robertson, Lewis Foster Robertson, Brice Henry Robertson and Elizabeth Suiter, heirs at law of David Robertson dec'd. (late of Sangamon County, Illinois).


Now Know Ye, that the United States of America, in consideration of the premises, and in conformity with the several acts of Congress, in such case made and provided, have given and granted, and by these presents, do give and grant, unto the said John Robertson, David Robertson, James Robertson, William Robertson, Henry Robertson, Lewis Foster Robertson, Brice Henry Robertson and Elizabeth Suiter, heirs at law of David Robertson, dec'd late of Sangamon County, Illinois and to their heirs, the said tract above described.

To have and to hold the same, together with all the rights, privileges, immunities and appurtenances, of whatsoever nature thereunto belonging unto the said John Robertson, David Robertson, James Robertson, William Robertson, Henry Robertson, Lewis Foster Robertson, Brice Henry Robertson and Elizabeth Suiter, heirs at law of David Robertson, dec'd. late of Sangamon County, Illinois, and to their heirs and assigns as tenants in common and not as joint tenants.

In testimony whereof, I, Andrew Jackson, President of the United States of America have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the General Land Office to be hereunto affixed.

Given under my hand, at the City of Washington, the Twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four and of the Independence of the United States the fifty-ninth.

This patent is for 80 acres, W1/2, SW1/4 Sec. 26, T10N, R7W - east of Carlinville, IL in Macoupin County.  It was not signed by Andrew Jackson, but was signed for him by his nephew and secretary Andrew Jackson Donelson.

Tenants in Common - all tenants in common hold an individual, undivided ownership interest in the property.  Each person has the right to alienate or transfer the ownership of his/her interest.  This can be done by deed, will or other conveyance.  

Joint tenants cannot transfer ownership w/out the consent of the other tenants. 

David Robertson, late of Sangamon County, IL b. ca. 1775 probably in Virginia.  Married Mary Ann Henry Aug. 1796 in Virginia. Had at least nine children:
