In Memoriam June 11th

1820 Bradford Powell, age 45 in Richford, VT.  Born in 1775 in Stratford, CT, he was the son of Rowland & Mary (Janes) Powell.  He married Clarissa Goff in 1803 and they had 8 children:  Delight, Emily, Marcia, Seraphina, Jay, Diana, herman and Henry.

Bradford Powell came to Richford, VT as early as 1799, then a young man about twenty-years of age.  Mr. Powell had much to do in the business of the town.  His name appears as one of the first survyeors, as lister, and also deputy collector of customs.  He early formed a co-partnership with his brother John and Horace Janes of St. Albans, and traded for a time in a small store on the corner where Alvin Goff's dwelling house now stands.  the firm, however, did not live very long.  It was during the troublous times of 1812-15, when Congress placed some proscription on trade, and as many of their goods came from Canada, their trade was necessarily embarrassed.  The cold season following Mr. Powell was compelled to place an encumbrance on his real estate, which he was never able to discharge.  Mr. Powell married Clarissa Goff, in April, 1803 and was the father of nine children.  He died a comparatively young man.  He was a member of the First Baptist church.  Mr. Powell has no surviving children, but has several grandchildren living.

1972 Ernest Dreiling age 86 the son of Charles and Magdalena (Erkman) Dreiling.  He married Nettie Follett in 1911 and they had a son, William.

1979 Samuel Oliver in Chicago, IL age 66.  He was born in Louisville, IL in 1913 the son of Samuel & Gaynell White.  Samuel married Stella Sapyta in 1939 and they had four children: Raymond, Gaynell, Pamela and Janet.  He is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Decatur, IL.
