In Memoriam May 5th


1908 Homer E. Powell aged 57 y, 1 d died May 5, 1908 in Burlington, VT of mitraldes of heart.  He was a lawyer living in Milton, VT the son of Herman & Julia S. (White) Powell.  Herman was born in Richford and Julia was born in Sheldon.



1948 W.G. Lathrop Dies as He Transacts Business
William G. Lathrop, 63, Christy town farmer, and former Lawrenceville grocer, died unexpectedly at Olney on Wednesday of last week.  Mr. Lathrop had gone to Olney on business and died while sitting in his automobile.
The funeral service was held in the Union Chapel Church, Sunday afternoon.
He is survived by his widow and four sons.  The sons are Harold Lathrop living at home; Donald Lathrop of Bridgeport; Leland Lathrop of Denver, Colo. and Dr. George Lathrop of San Francisco.
Mr. Lathrop was formerly a school teacher and was best known for his ardent church work throughout the county.  He had been most recenlty interested in the project of consolidating the several school districts in his community in an effort to give rural children better educational facilities.
William Lathrop Rites to be Held Sunday Afternoon
Funeral services for William G. Lathorp, 63, prominent farmer of the Red Hills area northeast of Sumner who dropped dead about noon Wednesday in Olney will be held in the Union Chapel Church at 2 p.m. Sunday.
An inquest into the death was held yesterday at the office of Deputy Coroner Oscar Forney of Olney, the jury returning a verdict that death was due to a heart attack.
Mr. Lathrop was reported trading in Olney and was watching some merchandise being weighed when he suddenly collapsed.
He is survived by his wife Nora, and four sons, Harold at home; Donald of Bridgeport, Leland of Denver, Colo. and Dr. George Lathrop of San Francisco, Calif.
2006 - Joe Downey, 38 of Lawrenceville, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He had worked for Lewis Bakery in Vincennes, Ind.
Graveside services were held Monday (today) at Noon at the Farnsworth Cemetery south of Keenes.  Visitation was held Sunday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Emmons-Macey and Steffey Funeral Home.
Joe was born July 18, 1967 in Sacremento, Calif., to Charles and Marilyn Shelton Downey.  He married Karla Jordan on Mar. 6, 1998.  She survives.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and a veteran of the US Army.  He was a member of the Eagles in Olney.
Survivors include his parents both of Wayne City, his wife of Lawrenceville; a son, Tony (Larissa) Jordan of Dundas; a daughter Destiny (Dusty) Frazier Ernest of Lawrenceville; brothers Chuck Downey Jr., Ray Downey Sr., of Wayne City and Pete Downey of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters Robbin Downey and Della Downey of Wayne City; two grandchildren.

2008 - Louella Newby, 94, Wayne City, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Friendship Health Care Center in Herrin.
She retired from the Fairfield Sewing Factory.
Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery with Bro. Tim Talbert officiating.  There will be no visitation.  Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.
Louella was born May 2, 1913 in Arrington Twp., Wayne County, the daughter of Austin W. and Ella Fraim Talbert.  She married Chester Newby who preceded her in death March 28, 1969.
Mrs. Newby was a member of First Christian Church in Wayne City.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law and four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, six brothers, one son and one granddaughter.
