In Memoriam March 15th

1713 Mary (Rock  Smith) Denton in Hampstead, New York age 73.  She was born in Dorchester, MA in 1640 the daughter of John & Elizabeth (Gildersleeve) Rock Smith.  The family used the name Rock Smith to distinguish themselves from several other Smith families in the area.  Mary married Samuel Denton in 1656 in Hempstead, NY and they had at least one son Abraham.


1829 John Tipton Hunt Jr. age 66 in Owingsville, KY he was born in Frederick Co., VA in 1763 the son of John & Mary (Overall) Hunt.  He was a veteran of the American Revolution.  John married Mary Denton in Washington Co., TN in 1788 and they had fifteen children: Lemuel, William, Absalom, James, Reuben, John, Howard, William, Joshua, Elizabeth, Denise, Sarah, Benjamin, Patsy and Debby.  At age 49 he commissioned a colonel in the War of 1812.  He is buried in Crain Cemetery in Fleming Co., KY.
  

1946 Louisa (Dove) Lathrop in Wayne Co., IL age 67 the daughter of William & Nancy (Hunt) Dove she was born in Wayne Co., IL in 1878.  She married Joel Lathrop in 1896 and they had eleven children: Lova, Gertie, Roscoe, Rufus, Tressie, Albert, Zelphia, Forrest, Bernard, Ruby and Raymond.  Lou is buried in Mt. Zion / Farnsworth Cemetery in Wayne Co., IL.


1982 Mrs. Edna May Gurley Davis, 84, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Wayne City, died at 4:10 p.m. Monday of last week in the Regina Pacis Nursing Home in Evansville.
She was the sister of Mrs. Ruby Gurley Musteen, of Fairfield.
Mrs. Davis had been in ill health for some time and had been hospitalized five times this past year for a lingering illness.  She had moved to the nursing home two weeks prior to her death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City with Bro. Carroll Kakac officiating.  Arrangements were handled by the Richardson Funeral Home of Wayne City.
Mrs. Davis was born in Wayne county Nov. 1, 1897, the daughter of James Robert and Lou Emma (Spear) Gurley.  She married William J. Gurley [Davis not Gurley], who preceded her in death June 25, 1972.
She was a graduate of Lockyear Business College, of Evansville, and a member of the First Christian church of Evansville.
Mrs. Davis had worked in various ready-to-wear stores in Evansville prior to her retirement.  She had worked at Johnson’s Store in Fairfield early in her career.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Ruby Gurley Musteen, of Fairfield; one granddaughter, Mrs. Billy (Trixie) Lathrop, of Wayne City; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.


1993 James L. Colclasure 22 of Fairfield and Evanston, died at 6 p.m. Monday, March 15, 1993 at St. Francis Hospital in Evansville.
He was disabled with muscular dystrophy.
Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Maple Hill cemetery, with Bro. Carroll Kakac officiating.  Visitation at the Johnson Funeral Home will be from 9:30 to 10:30 Saturday, prior to the funeral.
He was born in Glendale, Calif.; Dec. 2, 1970, the son of James E. and Carol Firth Colclasure.
He was never married.
Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Carol Colclasure of Fairfield; his father, James E. Colclasure of Chicago; a sister Jamie Colclasure of Evanston; and two grandmothers, Mrs. Edna Halterman of Cisne and Mrs. Caroline Colclasure of Mill Shoals.

2009 Marilyn Galloway, 60, Fairfield, died at 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Mar. 15, 2009 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital, Mt. Vernon.
She was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Galloway & Sons Contracting.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Nale’s Funeral Home with Rev. Brett Yates officiating.  Visitation is from 11 a.m. Wednesday to service time at Nale’s.  Burial will be in maple Hill Cemetery.
Marilyn was born Nov. 28, 1948 in Mt. Vernon, the daughter of Gerald H. and Gladys Cravens Galloway.
She was a member of Ellen Moore United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Robert (Susan) Galloway of St. Louis, Mo., and uncle of Olney; and two nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one uncle and one aunt.
