Sherwood Forest


Sherwood Forest the home of President John Tyler in Charles City, Virginia. John Tyler (1790-1862) served as vice-president to William Henry Harrison and became president upon Harrison's death in 1841.  He was the first vice president to succeed to presidency and to serve without being elected to the office.  Tyler purchased this plantation in 1842.  It remains in the family to this day and is open to the public.
