In Memoriam February 23rd

1658 ? Fuller unnamed child of Samuel & Jane (Lathrop) Fuller.  The child was 15 days old.

1748 Thankful (Weller) Loomis the wife of Nehemiah Loomis age 73.  She was born in 1674 and married Nehemiah in 1694.


1879 Charles Johnson age 88 in Pennsylvania.  Charles was the son of Caspar & Deborah (Admason) Johnson.  He was born in Pennsylvania in 1790 and married Esther Strawn.


2006 Charles Franklin Gunter, 87, of McLeansboro died 1 a.m. Feb. 23, 2006 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was a retired farmer.
Mr. Gunter was born Oct. 8 1918, in Hamilton County to Harry and Nora (Gibbs) Gunter.  He married Frieda Aliene (Erkmann) Gunter July 5, 1940, in McLeansboro; she survives.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  The Revs. Billie Duncan and Robert Sefried will officiate.  Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery in McLeansboro.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.  Masonic services by Macedonia Masonic Lodge will be 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. Gunter is survived by his wife, Frieda Gunter of McLeansboro; sons Charles E. Gunter and wife Alice of Eldorado, Donald Gunter and wife Shirley of McLeansboro, Daniel Gunter and wife Rita of Springerton, Freddie Gunter and wife Ann of McLeansboro and David Gunter of McLeansboro; daughters Barbara Johnson and husband David of Belle Rive, Janet Veteto and husband Larry of McLeansboro and Ruby Everett and husband Charles of McLeansboro; several nieces and nephews; 23 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; and sisters Mary Nelson of McLeansboro, Beulah Hanson of Lima, Ohio, Wilma Lewis of LaPorte, Ind., and Ruby Duncan and husband Billie of Carmi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, two brothers Clarance and Clifford Gunter; a sister Bernice Johnson; a grandson James Daniel Gunter; and a great-grandson Derrick Chad Witzel.
Mr. Gunter was a member of Order of Eastern Star, the Masonic Lodge, White Shrine and Amaranth of Carmi.  He was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church.
He served as director with Wabash Area Development for 35 years.  He served on the Hamilton County Supervisor of Assessment Board for 12 years.  He was a veteran.
