In Memoriam February 10th

1658 Unnamed Powell aged 1 year old daughter of Rowland & Isabelle (Button) Powell.


1910 John Newton Robertson murdered by Sioux Indians near Maramec, Oklahoma at age 30.  John was born in 1880 the son of John Dewitt & Theresa (Herman) Robertson.  He served in Co. H of the 9th IL Infantry during the Spanish American War from July 1898 through May 1899.  The company was mustered into federal service in July 1898 in Springfield, Il.  In August they were ordered to Camp Cuba Libre in Jacksonville, FL.  The company was sent to Savannah, GA in October.  In January 1899 the 9th IL was shipped to Havana, Cuba and participated in occupation of Cuba through April when they were sent back to Savannah, GA.  The company mustered out in Augusta, GA in May.  J. Newton is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery in Wayne County, IL.




1923 Itha (Smith) Suter aged 56 in St. Jacob, IL.  She was born in Madison County, IL in 1866 the daughter of John & Susanah (Smart) Smith.  She married Gustav Suter in 1884 and they had at least one daughter:  Linda. 


1953 Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Wayne City Methodist Church for Morton Burton, 69, who died Tuesday, Feb. 10, after a long illness.
The Rev. Mr. Beck and the Rev. Lloyd Trotter officiated with burial in the Thomason Cemetery.
Mr. Butler had been a resident of Wayne City for about 45 years.  He had been a carpenter and owner of a grocery and meat store there.
He was born August 13, 1883 near Bluford, son of George and Dora Butler. 
He was a member of the Wayne City Methodist Church for many years.
In 1906 [sic] he was married to Anna Robertson.  To them five children were born.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Ruth Hendershott of Rockford, Grace Lathrop of Wayne City and Mabel Robertson of Sims; two sons, Edward Butler of Sims and James Everett Butler of Evansville; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.


1980 Laura (Freese) Wilfong Tucker aged 85 in Eldorado, IL.  Born 1895 in Indiana Laura was the daughter of George & Rachel (Baker) Freese.  She married 1) Chester Wilfong in 1911 and they had four children: Herman, Herschel, Audrey and Chester Jr..  Chester died in 1920 and Laura married 2) Clarence Tucker ca. 1925.  She is buried in Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado, IL.
