In Memoriam January 24th

1929 Elvira (Lathrop) Fee age 79 born in Richland Co., IL in 1849 the daughter of Henry & Rachel (Laws) Lathrop.  She married John Fee in 1874 in Richland Co., IL.  They had five children, two of whom preceded her in death.  She is buried in Chauncey Cemetery in Lawrence Co., IL.

1980 Mrs. Lena Lathrop of Olney, 91-year-old former Sumner resident, died in Burgin Nursing Manor in Olney about 3 a.m. today.  Born in Lawrence County, Aug. 20, 1888, she was the daughter of Pope and Jennie Hardy Steward.  her husband, Orson Lathrop, one son, one daughter, and one brother preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Laughlin of Olney; six grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.  Mrs. Lathrop was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Olney.  Funeral rites will be conducted at 11.a.m. Saturday from Sivert Funeral Home in Sumner with the Rev. Elmer Fenton officiating.  Interment will follow in Sumner Cemetery.


1990 Mrs. Ida May Butler, 67, of 506 Spring Street, died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 1990, at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  She was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but was reported dead on arrival.  Her death was due to a diabetic illness and other complications.  Coroner Bob G. Johnson is conducting an inquiry.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Richardson Funeral Home in Wayne City, with Rev. Havaard Dasch officiating.  Burial will be in the Garrison cemetery in the Aden area.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12 noon Friday to the funeral hour.  She was born in Maidson County, Ill., Feb. 14, 1922, the daughter of Alva Otto and Edna May Legg Downen.  Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter; one brother; and one sister.  Surviving are three sons, Robert Edward Butler of Mexico; John Butler, Fairfield; and Dale Butler, Noble; three daughters, Helen Barnfield, Cisne; Henrietta Cook, Noble; and Mary Cook, Noble; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Russell Downen, Wayne City; Jesse Downen, Sims; and Art Legg Wayne City; and five sisters, Mable Austin, Sims; Lola McCormick, Wayne City; Cora Hutchcraft, Wayne City; Clarice Rawls, Wayne City; and Dorothy Hedden, Wayne City.
