May 8th

Many happy returns to:

1671 Elizabeth Loomis the daughter of Deacon John & Elizabeth (Scott) Loomis.  She died in 1723.


1689 Simon Lathrop son of Samuel & Hannah (Adgate) Loomis.  He married Martha Lathrop in 1714 and they lived in Norwich, CT. He served as a representative of Norwich in the Connecticut General Assembly.  He was granted the right to build a wharf and a warehouse.  He served in  Louisburg campaign.  According to Huntington: 
Col. Simon Lothrop was a man of more than ordinary renown.  He commanded on of the Connecticut regiments in the successful expeditions against Annapolis and Louisburg, and was valued for his judgment in council as well as for his gallant bearing in the field.  At one period he was left for a considerable time in the chief command of the fortress at Cape Breton.  He had entered the service as Lieut. Col. commanding the Connecticut regiment for the above expedition, and received the commission of Colonel Oct. 29, 1745.
1884 Harry Truman in Lamar, MO son of John & Martha (Young) Truman.  He served in World War I. Harry married Bess Wallace in 1919.  After his business failed, Truman was elected a county judge in Kansas City, MO.  From there he was elected U.S. Senator which led to his being selected Franklin Delano Roosevelt's vice president (another cousin . . . ).  Harry became president in 1945 upon FDR's death and was successful in being elected to a second term.  He and Bess retired to to Missouri when he left office.  He died in 1972.

1912 Ather Smallwood the son of Bill & DeEtta (Withrow) Smallwood

1916 Velma Robertson in Wayne Co., IL the daughter of John & Rose (Moore) Robertson.  She died in Dixon, IL 1993.

Cari Shaw the daughter of Edmund & Gerie (Holsinger) Shaw

Janaye Barnfield the daughter of James & Julie (Harrington) Barnfield.

Anniversaries:

1666 George Hinkle & Anna Dentzer in Germany.  Anna was born 1640 the daughter of Othmar & Louisa (Wagner) Dentzer.  They were living in Merenberg, Germany in 1668 when their son Anthony was born.  George died in 1678 and Anna died in 1700.

1907 Christian Schell & Sarah Warren.  Sarah the daughter of William & Minerva (Gaston) Warren was born 1844 in Wayne Co., IL.  She married 1st Amos Robertson in 1864.  Christian was her 2nd husband.  He died in 1919.  Sarah died in 1924 in Wilmington, IL at the Civil War widow’s home.

1913 Dock Rogers & Martha Withrow.  Martha born in 1893 Sallisaw, OK was the daughter of Franklin & Mary (Dove) Withrow.  Dock died in 1968 and Martha in Tulsa, OK in 1977.  They had 8 children.
