Happy New Year!

Today is the first day of the year on the Julian calendar.  This calendar was in use in England and the American colonies until 1752.  The Gregorian calendar was in use in mainland Europe in 1582.  For the years when both were in use, one often sees a hyphenated years for events occurring during the first quarter of the year.  Example:  John Gallop was born Feb. 5, 1653-4.  1653 on the Julian calendar, but 1654 on the Gregorian calendar.

1842 John Dewitt Robertson the son of David & Rebecca (Clark) Robertson in Ohio.  He died 1919 in Wayne Co. IL and is buried in Pin Oak Cemetery.

1852 John Hays in Harlan, KY, died 1918 in White Co. IL.  He was the husband of Lena Dietz.

1863 Mary Dove in Indiana the daughter of William & Martha (Rainwater) Dove.  She died 1939 in Tulsa, OK and is buried in Sunny Side Cemetery in Lincoln, OK.

1883 Ida Lathrop in Richland Co. IL the daughter of George & Roelia (Hostetler) Lathrop

1884 Charlie Erkman son of John & Catherine (Burkhardt) Erkman

1907 Herman Lathrop in Lawrence Co. IL the son of John & Lizzie (Stiff) Lathrop.  He died in Olney, IL in 1974 and is buried in Crest Haven Memorial Park in Lawrence Co. IL.

1915 Bernice Stone the wife of Hasten Garrison

1917 William Dreiling son of Ernest & Nettie (Follett) Dreiling.  He died in 1993.

Russell French Jr. the son of Russell & Lynda (Marple) French

Alan Leturno son of Roger & Jacqueline (Talbert) Leturno

Happy Anniversary ~

1703 Elkanah Leonard & Charity Hodges in Taunton, MA.  Elkanah born 1677 in MA the son of Thomas & Mary (Watson) Leonard died 1714 in Middleboro, MA.  He was Charity’s first husband.  Charity was born in 1682 in Taunton, MA to Capt. Henry & Esther (Gallop) Hodges and died 1739 in Middleboro, MA.  The couple had 9 children.  In 1722 Charity remarried Jabez Perkins in Middleboro, MA.  They had one daughter, Charity.

1847 Wakefield Keller & Cynthia Fitzgerald in Noble, IL.  Cynthia was the daughter of Derritt & Mary (Slaven) Fitzgerald.  She was born in 1829 in IN.  She and Wakefield had 3 children.

1869 William Sprague & Umbazinda Parks in Bartholomew Co. IN.  William was born in Muskingum Co., OH 1835.  Umbazinda was the daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth (Ogle) Parks.  She was born 1839 in Muskingum Co. OH.
