Anniversaries:

1791 Samuel Clark & Mary Darby in Westfield, NJ.  Samuel was the son of James & Esther (Marsh) Clark.  He was born 1768 in Elizabeth, NJ (see March 11th).  Mary was born in 1768 in New Jersey, the daughter of Elias Darby.  She died ca. 1806 possibly in Virginia. They had 8 children.  By 1810 Samuel was living in Hanging Rock, OH.  He appears on tax lists in 1811, 1818 and 1821.  He leased lots from the county in 1818 and 1828.  Samuel sold land to his son-in-law David Robertson in 1837.  He moved with his daughter Hannah & her husband William Carpenter to Gashland, MO in 1843 which is now part of Kansas City, MO.

The following is an excerpt from a letter from Daniel Carpenter to E.S. Clark dated Oct. 20, 1913:

Grandfather Samuel Clark was in hearing of the bombardment of Yorktown, Va. when Lord Cornwallis surrendered to General Washington and closed the Revolutionary War.  It is probably that Mary Darby was a Virginia girl as grandfather was about 15 years old at the time Cornwallis surrendered at Yorktown, Va. and could not have married so young.  I have no record of the date, but their first child Samuel was born March 20, 1792, is the only evidence of the time of marriage.

Grandfather Clark was a carpenter by trade and a bridge builder.  His home was with father from before I can remember until his death.
1828 Nelson Lathrop & Nancy Cloud.  Nelson was the son of Rev. Erastus & Delia (Ingalls) Lathrop and was living in Henry Co., IA in 1849.

1897 John Clark & Delia ? in Lawrence Co., OH.  John was the son of Levi & Emily (Rose) Clark and great grandson of Samuel above.  He died in 1944 and Delia died in Ironton, OH in 1962.  They are buried in Aid Cemetery, Lawrence Co. OH.
